On long trekking trips or when travelling and living out of a rucksack, you need a pack that can help you carry heavier loads comfortably. The fully featured ESCALADE trekking rucksack is designed to do just that. It also comes with a protective carry system cover (useful when travelling by plane) and a detachable front compartment which doubles as a lightweight pack for daytrips or when you can't access your main pack because it's strapped to a mule!

The V-TRANSITION carry system provides optimised direct load transfer to the waist belt. Two ergonomically shaped duraluminium rods are directly anchored in a flexible lumbar plate, which is in turn connected to the padded waist belt. This ensures that the load is efficiently and comfortably distributed onto the hips. The specially formed occipital cavity provides full freedom of movement for the head even when carrying a fully loaded rucksack.

The pack system includes a range of pockets and compartments and dual-access to the main compartment for at-a-glance organisation of your kit. The ESCALADE's fully featured spec also includes plenty of extra details to make life on the move that little bit more comfortable: integrated rain cover and carry system cover, prepped for an on-board hydration system and a fold-out bottle holster for easy access to your drinks bottle.

This bag rates 5 stars for style. Very slim profile, great side mesh pockets for glasses or water, roomy inside. The adjustable shoulder strap design eliminates floppy ends. The base at the back is adequately padded. The bag is well made. The bag across the back seems a bit big for an average person. (130 lbs) The straps gap at the sides. Maybe it was for a larger sized woman. The color, described by the manufacturer is Green Lake. The color shown on the website is definitely a teal blue. In reality the bag is close to emerald green. I looked at other sites to compare colors and all were the same teal color. A near miss for me in too many areas.

Took me awhile to figure this out, so to help the next person....

In one of the pockets you'll notice a "packable" tag. Pull that pocket so it's inside out. Now stuff the jacket into it. The pocket zipper is double-sided so you can zip it up once you're done. It's not a tiny package, but not too bad.
